100 years since Tubin made his conducting debut

Alatskivi celebrated the birth anniversary of composer Eduard Tubin, the centenary of his conducting debut and the 13th anniversary of the museum dedicated to him. birthday.

On 29 June, it will be exactly 100 years since the conducting debut of Eduard Tubin. The debut took place at the Alatskivi Folk Festival with a concert by the mixed choirs of Alatskivi, Savastvere and Koosa.

Little is known about an event that happened 100 years ago. There is a photo of Eduard Tubin with the choir, and the event is also mentioned in a newspaper article, but on a different subject.

According to Mikk Kirikal, the organiser of the event, it is known that in the first half of the day there was the unveiling of a monument to the local poet Juhan Liiv, which was published in 1924. some descriptions in the Postimage of the year, which also mentions a folk festival:
“The choir sings some songs composed to Liv’s words, the orchestra plays. This concludes the opening. The people from all over the region had gathered in large numbers, as the chapel feast was also celebrated in Alatskivi on Sunday, and after lunch a people’s party started in the castle park.”

According to Mikk Kirikal, Eduard Tubin is not mentioned by name: “At the time, Tubin was only 19 years old and still a completely unknown figure in the wider world.” As there is little information about this performance, Kirikal invites people to share their memories: “Please contact the Tubin Museum if anyone knows of a relative who sang in the choir that day and may have new information about the event.”
In June, Tubin celebrated 119 years since his birth, and the composer’s personal museum in Alatskivi Castle turned 13 years old. Inspired by these momentous events, the European Commission will hold a conference on Friday 28. On 15 June, a concert dedicated to Tubin.

The concert will feature the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. Mihhail Gerts conducts and reads intertitles. The programme includes eight mixed choral songs by Tubin. The event will take place in the Alatskivi Castle Driving Stables and is free of charge for everyone.
