National Geographic names Tartu as one of the most exciting destinations for next year
National Geographic Traveller magazine named Tartu as the only city in the whole of the Baltics to be among the 30 most exciting destinations to visit in 2024. in.
The magazine writes that Tartu is considered the cultural and intellectual heart of Estonia thanks to its museums, lively cafés and the country’s oldest university, so it’s no surprise that as a UNESCO City of Literature, Tartu has been chosen as one of three European Capitals of Culture for 2024, along with Bad Ischl in Austria and Bodø in Norway.
“Tartu and the wider South-Estonia region will be celebrating the event throughout the year, with events ranging from classical music concerts and film nights to edgy art installations,” the magazine writes.
The magazine highlights events in the Capital of Culture programme such as “Kissing Tartu”, the Stencibility sticker exhibition or the curated biodiversity project.
