Kolkja Gorge becomes Kolkja village hike
A metamorphosis of a traditional event will take place on Sunday in the Sibulet region on the shores of Lake Peipsi. Weather and ice conditions do not allow for a winter party with a sledge race on the Peipsi this year. The organisers from the Onion Lake Network and the Peipsiääre municipality will bring the winter festival to the centre of Kolkja village and prepare a Kolkja village hike offering new insights.
The tenth edition of the Kolkja Reel will probably take place next year. Everyone is also welcome to the first Kolkja hike, which will take place on Sunday in front of the Kolkja community centre. In addition to the hike, there will also be a Winterprääznik, which will bring together local food and a cultural programme, offering activities for children and challenges in the form of mini-competitions for adults.
The whole day will start at 12 with the Winterprääznik part and the registration of the hikers. The hike starts at 13:00 and the whole event lasts until 15:00.
The Kolkja hike is accessible for everyone, you can participate with your family or a team, but you can also go alone if you wish. During the hike, you will have to solve a crossword puzzle and find answers to several questions. Onion Trail leader Liis Lainemäe promises that the hike can be done with a pushchair or wheelchair: “The trail runs along paved village streets and is about three kilometres long. We allow up to an hour and a half to complete the trail and the crossword, which is enough time to take the hike at a very leisurely pace.” After the event, all participants will be able to visit the newly renovated Kolkja Old Believers’ Museum free of charge.
The children’s area, run by the Otsa Farm team, is located in the Winterpark Centre. Tamme Riding Stables has promised to come with horse rides.
You can also come just for the Winterfest, which is free for everyone. For those who want to take part in the hike, get a tasty medal and take part in the prize draw, tickets for the hike with registration can be purchased until 1. until the end of March from the Onion website(www.sibulatee.ee) or Piletilevi(https://www.piletilevi.ee/est/piletid/kogupere/kolkja-kelk-ja-talvepraaznik-peipsil-423144/?design=&shop_provider=Tartu2024).
Winterprääznik and Kolkja village hike will take place on 3. March 12-15 in the village of Kolkja.
The event is organised by the Onion Lake Network and the Peipsiääre Municipality.
